September 2009
New Semester!
Dear La Jolla Resident, school will be starting soon and we are so excited to meet you! You will receive your roommate and apartment assignment on the day you check in.
CHECK IN IS ON MONDAY, SEPT 7th.
Check-in hours are from 9:00am – 5:00pm on that day.
Please plan your travel plans accordingly! Sometimes things change and you may not be in the apartment that you are expecting. Check-ins after Monday will be during office hours. If you come late at night there will be a box with envelopes in alphabetical order with your key, apt #, and invoice. There will be no check-ins on Sunday.
These are just a few items you need to bring: towels, kitchen items, clothing for cold weather, twin bedding, dishes, personal items, pots/pans, computer( we have Ethernet or wireless Internet), mattress pad(required by college). Please know that you are not allowed to have bikes inside the apartment and you are also not allowed to use nails, screws, tacks or double stick tape on your walls or anywhere else in the apartment; sticky tack is the only permitted form of wall hanging. I would recommend you bring less rather than more. You are sharing an apartment and can always have things sent to you. Many of the things needed could be shared between roommates.
Payment
Be sure that if you have a payment due on arrival, you have it ready when you check in. Otherwise, please remember that the FINAL payment is due by Sept 27th or 40% if you are on our payment plan.
Please set up your Tenant Portal before check ins. Go to Girlsapartments.com and click on LaJolla. Next click on the make online payments and you will go to a login screen. Click on SetUP and enter your your personal information. IMPORTANT!- make sure to sign up with your BYU Idaho Email Address. If you use any other email address, it will not work!
Mandatory Meeting
September 16th @ 7:00pm There will be a MANDATORY meeting for all tenants of La Jolla. We will be going over some important information. This meeting is mandatory for all students, and is required by BYUI. Please be sure to ask this date off from work. We look forward to meeting all of you and hope to make your college experience more enjoyable.

July 2009

4th of July
We hope that everyone had a happy 4th of July.
To all our Canadian Tenants
We hope you had a great Canada Day on the 1st.
DOOR DECORATING CONTEST
Congratulations to Apartment 204 for being the winner of the 4th of July door decorating contest. They won a full BBQ/Grill Dinner for 12. Hope your hungry; we have lots of food for you.
CLEAN CHECKS
The last clean check of the semester is the 8th. (Can you say hallelujah?) Everyone has been doing better and better each clean check, especially the last one a couple of weeks ago. Please make sure that everything is completed on the 8th before the clean check lady arrives. She is charging an automatic $5 fee if she has to do a recheck.
WHITE GLOVE
A sign up sheet will be located on the office door for white gloves on Monday the 13th. White glove sign-ups are for each apartment, not individual. Please make sure to sign up for a time that everyone in your apartment agrees on. We will be getting you all the items for white glove on Monday the 13th.
CHECK OUTS
Check Outs at LaJolla are a little different than other complexes. We do a self check-out. When all your items are completed for white glove, and you have completed the check out check list that we will email you on the 13th, you are free to go. If not returning for the summer break or for the upcoming fall semester, please make sure to tape your key to the self check out form and leave a self addressed stamped (44cents) LEGAL size envelope on your kitchen table with the self check out form.
If not attending the seven week break, but returning after the break for the fall semester, please leave your check out form with your key on the kitchen table. You do not need to leave an envelope if returning for the fall semester.
If attending both seven week break and the fall semester, just make sure that all of your white glove items are completed.
24th of JULY / PIONEER DAY
Pioneer Day (also archaically called the Day of Deliverance) is an official Utah state holiday celebrated on July 24 in the U.S. state of Utah, with some celebrations in regions of surrounding states originally settled by Mormon pioneers. It commemorates the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon Pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847, where the Latter-day Saints settled after being forced from Nauvoo, Illinois and other locations in the eastern United States. Parades, fireworks, rodeos, and other festivities help commemorate the event.
In addition to being an official holiday in Utah, Pioneer Day is considered a special occasion by many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On Pioneer Day, some Latter-day Saints walk portions of the Mormon Trail or reenact entering the Salt Lake Valley by handcart. Even Latter-day Saints outside of the U.S. occasionally sing Mormon folk music around July 24 in remembrance of the pioneer era.
GRADUATION
Congratulations to all those that are graduating this semester. Remember all that you learned from BYU-Idaho, and we hope that some of your fond memories involve LaJolla. No other school (other than BYU, BYU-Hawaii, and LDS Business) offers the environment where the Spirit teaches you about worldly things to help you through life. If going on to a Grad School, implement the learning model of BYU-I, it will help you more than you know. Good luck to you in all your future endeavors.

Also remember that we have a rent drop box located right outside the office door. We do not accept cash or cards in the office. We do accept money orders and checks in office and credit / debit / and e-checks through your tenant portal.

We are still in the process of hiring a tenant salon stylist. We will email you as soon as we have hired the stylist.

Easter
Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. Easter falls at some point between late March and late April each year (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity), following the cycle of the Moon. After several centuries of disagreement, all churches accepted the computation of the Alexandrian Church (now the Coptic Church) that Easter is the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon, which is the first moon whose 14th day (the ecclesiastic “full moon”) is on or after March 21 (the ecclesiastic “vernal equinox“).
Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover not only for much of its symbolism but also for its position in the calendar. It is also linked to Spring Break, a secular school holiday (customarily a week long) celebrated at various times across North America, and characterized by road trips and bacchanalia.
Cultural elements, such as the Easter Bunny, have become part of the holiday’s modern celebrations, and those aspects are often celebrated by many Christians and non-Christians alike. There are also some Christian denominations who do not celebrate Easter
General Conference
The 179th Annual General Conference of the Church will convene in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City on Saturday and Sunday, April 4-5, 2009. The Saturday general sessions will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.; Sunday sessions will be held at 9:30 a.m. (which includes Music and the Spoken Word) and 2:00 p.m. The general priesthood meeting will be held in the Conference Center on Saturday, April 4, at 6:00 p.m.
The First Presidency invites all members of the Church to participate by attending, viewing, or listening via television, radio, satellite, or Internet transmission at www.lds.org. Messages of inspiration and guidance will be delivered by the First Presidency, members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and other General Authorities and general officers of the Church.
General Conference will be broadcasted on channel 13, 8, 5. Most of the time the cable company will black out channel 5 (KSL Utah) during the conference broadcast, but in between sessions they will unblock channel 5 for the special reports that they do.

Irish Traditions
Many people will be eating Irish food such as Irish Stew and Corned Beef and Cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day. Did you know that corned beef is not an Irish dish? It is what Americans think the Irish eat. A more traditional meal would be ham and cabbage or bacon and cabbage. Some say that in Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day the traditional green beer is prominent. However, in Ireland many years ago, St. Patrick’s Day is considered a holy day and pubs were not open for business. There were no parades, no drinking or wearing green. Green was considered an unlucky color. One tradition that is fun is eating Lucky Charms for breakfast on St. Patrick ’s Day.
The Blarney Stone is a stone set in the wall of the Blarney Castle tower in the Irish village of Blarney. Kissing the stone is supposed to bring the kisser the gift of persuasive eloquence. The legend says that an old woman cast a spell on the stone to reward a king who had saved her from drowning. Kissing the stone while under the spell gave the king the ability to speak sweetly and convincingly. It’s difficult to reach the stone. Kissers have to lie on their backs and bend downward, holding iron bars for support.
Newsletter Contest!
According to legend, what did St Patrick banish from the island?
The 3rd, 11th, and 18th tenants to email the answer to the question will receive a Hot N’ Ready pizza.
